Alta Vista was the first full-text database that covers a large part of the web. When someone wants to add their site to Alta Vista's database, they usually only have to submit their home page. Then Alta Vista uses spiders to search the rest of the site. They will find key words, links, and data. However, they also check for spamming, meta tags, and other forms of false information.
