Host Name: 20m Free Web Space Comments: Might I say, first... thank a deity for "100 Best Free Web Space Providers"... what an enormously useful resource for those of us seeking free web space. It has come through for me time and again. I have a web site that is basically frozen and not updated often... now parked at 20m.com...when I visited recently, I was dismayed to see pop-up ads. Every time I clicked on a new page.... a new pop-up ad would appear. I recall when my site was on Netcolony.com once and they initiated their policy of pop-up ads. I hate pop-up ads whenever I encounter them on other sites, but when they're on my site, they become totally unacceptable. Netcolony was having other problems, and hunting for another provider became necessary... thanks to good old "100 Best Free Web Space Providers," I discovered 20m.com. So 20m.com had a banner... okay, I could live with that. (Although their banner was a little monstrous, stretching nearly the entire page width. Ugly, yes, but one has to give up something. Besides, Netcolony's banner was similarly colossal.) However, 20m.com had other friendly features, like FTP access. Not long ago, I became aware that 20m.com began denigrating its services, like taking away the FTP access and limiting the space to 12m... somewhat sacreligious, as the promised space of the company's name is, after all, 20megs. (I was reminded of Crosswinds' one-time promise that they would NEVER have banners on their sites.) Since I was rarely updating my site, I didn't mind... I could use their crazy browser-based file manager once in a blue moon. Now that I've discovered 20m.com has begun the sleazy practice of including pop-up ads (which I find is dishonest... when the original terms were offered, the only price one is told to pay is including a banner. Naturally, these companies have the right to change their terms... but... still. A Pop-up ad is like renting space from your landlord, allowing your landlord to come into your property uninvited at any time), I went to their site to see if I could find anything about what I considered a policy change. What I did find was their proudly displayed button for "100 Best Free Web Space Providers." So I took a trip to the site of my old friend, where you're reading this now. I am a bit perplexed that 20m.com is getting a high rating (5 out of 5??) and is among the best web space providers.... maybe they were at one time, when I first discovered them through "100 Best Free Web Space Providers," but not any more. Now that I'm thinking of ditching 20m.com just as I once did Netcolony, I can see some new services have opened their doors. Heading the top of the list now are FreeHostSpace and 150m Free Web Space, which probably weren't around when I last checked. Of course, reading the very helpful reviews here, I can see there are problems hidden in the fine print with these guys, as well. In closing, I believe an important consideration that could use tracking on this site is the presence of pop-up ads. A difficult thing to keep track of, to be sure... but pop-up ads are an even more offensive price to pay than banners, in my opinion.

Host Name: 20m Free Web Space Comments: I had to build a web site for our class reunion and didn't want to pay for hosting. 20m was awesome! I had the site built and running in less than an hour with the text, a message board, contact lists, guestbook, email, and pictures. It was so fast and the site looks great. The wysiwyg tools in the site builder work pretty smoothly for customizing the site. I had to use a little html to insert some links, but other than that it was easy enough for anyone. The pop-ups are a little annoying, but hey its free! I'm not complaining. I'd definitely recommend 20m to anyone needing a quick free site.

Host Name: 20m Free Web Space Comments: I`ve had excellent service from 20m.com but for the last two weeks their server is inaccessible. I`ve not been warned in advance. It is understandable for the server to be down from time to time for quick work on it, but it is two weeks and going and very inconvenient.

Host Name: 20m Free Web Space Comments: 20m.com is terrible! I have a paid subscription with them and they are AWFUL! One Feb 18 2008 20m.com disapeared right after billing me for service! They have now been offline for 6 days and my sites are GONE and offline! I am VERY displeased and untill they can improve service I would not suggest anyone use 20m at all! I plan to transfer my domains over to godaddy! 20m has taken the last payment they will receive! 20m.com is terrible to a paying customer who has been loyal for about 5 years! Support is terrible and the PH# is always busy except on weekends when nobody is present!
