Comments: After reading several reviews we switched to IXWebhosting. Since then, we have had nothing but problems with the server being down and our emails not working properly. When you try to get an answer, they send you in circles. Live chat says submit a ticket, when you submit a ticket they tell you to use Live Chat. We are in the process of looking for a new hosting company. I would not recommend IXWebhosting to anyone.

Comments: IXWebHosting - If there`s worse, I`m surprised. My initial experience with IXWebHosting was fine. I had maybe 1 or 2 technical questions and they were answered in about one day. The only thing I didn`t like was their webmail. I am not a fan of the program they provided, so I installed one that I purchased. It worked great for about 2 weeks and then suddenly certain email accounts weren`t able to login through it. I posted a message in the support forums on the vendor`s site for the software and after some troubleshooting found that the problem most likely was the PHP build on IX WebHosting. I presented documentation to IXWebHosting supporting this claim and they just couldn`t find anything wrong. They actually gave up trying after a month. -------------------- [Jul 15, 2004 10:08:48 AM] Q: I have installed a web-based email script called DWMail. It was running fine up until a week or two ago. I`m able to connect to certain email accounts without a problem, but others just won`t work. I thought it might be a problem with the program itself, but now I`m not so sure. I posted a message on the support forum for DWMail and this is what I was told: ----- It sounds like your installation of PHP is segfaulting.... this is a problem directly with PHP itself (and we`ve sometimes seen with the imap_open function). See www.dominion-web.com/product...ay&question=206 for more information. PHP segfaulting with the imap function is usually down to either a bad IMAP c-client installation or a bad PHP installation. (Note PHP can work absolutely fine until you come across one of the badly installed functions at which point it will segfault). __________________ Dominion Web www.dominion-web.com/ ----- I tried the script and entered the information for one of the accounts that wouldn`t work and it connected fine, suggesting that there may be a segmentation fault, according to: www.dominion-web.com/products/knowledgebase/index.php?option=display&question=206 Any help in resolving this issue would be greatly appreciated. :) Thank you, Christopher Zeman [Jul 16, 2004 3:42:10 AM] A: Dear Valued Customer! Thank you for the word to support. There is production version of IMAP c-client installed and it seems cannot cause such problem. Please ask dwmail vendors for further reasearch. Please refer to the following URL: bugs.php.net/bugs-generating-backtrace.php I`m not saying it definetely is the problem, but the most likely one at this point. Thank you for the word to support. Unfortunately I`ve not found any problem with php/imap c-client itself. It connecting to mail server without any problem, fetching headers, messages etc. Why dwmail can`t do the same? Since testing methods, provided by DWMail wasn`t revealed anything - I`m giving up. Kind Regards, -------------------------------------------------------------------- Shirley Wood, Technical Support www.ixwebhosting.com 24x7 Support Chat www.ixwebhosting.com/pg.info.dspLiveChat -------------------------------------------------------------------- That`s when I decided to just transfer to a different hosting company. I signed up for one that charged my credit card and then told me my account would be setup shortly. After about half an hour, there was a message saying there was an error setting up my account and to contact tech support and they would fIX the problem right away. I called tech support and they told me the domain I was trying to setup on their servers was already on their servers. I told them that was unlikely unless they were the same company as IXWebHosting. They told me that was a whole different company altogether. So, I was told to use a contact form on their web site to cancel and request a refund. A day or two later, still waiting for the refund, I receive a phone call from IXWebHosting asking me about my new account setup. I told her what happened and she said that both hosting companies are owned by the same parent company. She then refunded my credit card. Finally, I come across a hosting company that looks great, so I sign up and transfer everything over. There`s just one thing left....I used one of my free domain registrations at IXWebHosting and now want the domain unlocked so I may transfer the domain registration to the registrar that handles my other domain registrations. Here`s the trouble ticket emails for this one: Cancelling Account - Need Domain #81658? If I have, I apologize for what you are about to read, but I am sick of dealing with people in your department who shouldn`t be in their position. I AM NOT TRYING TO CHANGE THE NAMESERVERS!!! I ALREADY DID THAT!!! I have already gotten 2, I repeat TWO responses talking about nameservers!!! This is why I am cancelling my account. You just can`t get anywhere with the tech support department. Now, here we go...... I registered ----------.com through IXWebHosting. That makes IXWebHosting the DOMAIN REGISTRAR . Once you understand that, you`re ready for our next concept.... DOMAIN TRANSFER . I don`t want IXWebHosting to be the DOMAIN REGISTRAR anymore, so I want to perform a DOMAIN TRANSFER and make someone else the DOMAIN REGISTRAR . In order for me to do this, I need the REGISTRAR-LOCK status to be removed so I may finally complete the transfer. If you don`t understand this, please refer to the following website: www.baremetal.com/domains/domain_faq.html Now, I hope you understand I`m not trying to change nameservers. I already did that. I want to change registrars and completely sever my ties to IXWebHosting. If I am not able to complete this by the time my current billing cycle is over and you guys charge my credit card for another cycle, I will do a charge-back and file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Thank you, Christopher Zeman [Sep 4, 2004 12:04:46 PM] A: DEAR GOD! Next time, please, be so kind and explian what exactly you need to be done instead of dropping the pieces of your thoughts. To UNLOCK your domain, please contact our billing department Thank you very much for your cooperation and telling where is the one`s place. Should you have any further questions, feel free to contact us. We are at your service 24/7. Respectfully, --------------------------------------------------------------------- Oxana Kobenko Technical Support www.ixwebhosting.com 24x7 Support Chat www.ixwebhosting.com/pg.info.dspLiveChat --------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------ At this point, I called the billing department who told me I needed to fill out a contact form on their web site for this to take place. I was also instructed to also put the tech support emails from above in the form so they may be forwarded to a supervisor. The following is the message I received from IX WebHosting. From: IX WebHosting Save to addressbookTo: chrisz@----------.com Subject: Re: Domain Unlock & Complaint {idTZ41C2} Date: Tue, 07 September 2004 02:22:07 Dear Christopher Zeman, Thank you for your inquiry. > Please let me know what I need to do to have `----------.com` unlocked so I may > proceed with the transfer. My username is czeman. You may change the nameservers through your control panel located at: manage.IXwebhosting.com If there is anything else I can help you with, please feel free to reply to this email. Thank you! Kind Regards, -------------------------------------------------------------------- Kisha Salyer Customer Service IX Web Hosting www.ixwebhosting.com -------------------------------------------------------------------- Please feel free to reply to this email. If you wish to contact us in regards to a different topic, please submit your request at: www.ixwebhosting.com/info.dspContactUs -------------------------------------------------------------------- I couldn`t believe it! I called again and requested to talk to a supervisor. He was not helpful. He told me to submit the form again and put it to his attention. I told him I was done with their contact form because it doesn`t get me anywhere and that he needs to take care of it over the phone. He then told me that they needed my request in writing. He was looking at the ticket on his computer while we were talking!!! I told him he already had it in writing. He told me that he wasn`t going to sit there and argue with me and that I had two choices..... submit the form again or do it the old fashioned way. What did he mean by that? So I submitted the form again and still haven`t heard anything a day later. That`s alright, though. I did a search on Google for `IXwebhosting complaint` and found a ton! I found out I was far from being the only person who had the same trouble with them and found out what I needed to do to get my domain unlocked. I made a telephone call to eNom, the company IX WebHosting registers domain names through, and explained to them the situation. After they verified my identity they unlocked the domain name. The next day I received an email from IX WebHosting reminding me that my billing cycle will be renewed in two weeks. lol As soon as the domain transfer is complete, which should only be a couple days or so, I`ll be cancelling my service with them. Here`s the bottom line: If you`re looking for a reliable web host that respects their customers and gives you a good deal, stay away from IX Web Hosting or anyone owned by them or their parent company.

Comments: If your host rating went any lower than 1 I would have selected that rating. IX Webhosting have got to be the most pathetic hosting company I have encountered! Since mid Jan I have been hosting with them and they have destroyed my web business! Before I hosted with them I was getting over 8000 hits a day, now that`s down to under 2500! They can`t keep their MySQL server running for more than a few hours, hence my loss of potential business and traffic!

Comments: They`re cheap, but you get what you pay for. The tech support isn`t nearly as good as it claims to be. If it`s a simple matter that can be handled in the on-line chat, great, but their response to trouble tickets takes entirely too long. I requested my site to be restored from back-up, for example, but it took so long for them to respond that there were no back-ups dating prior to my request date. Apparently they don`t keep back-ups around too long either - less than seven days - which is not only unprofessional and incompetent, but renders the back-ups useless since it takes them so long to respond to your requests.

Comments: I was suppose to choose 0, but there was none in the selection, so i chose 1. The service really sucks. There was one time when they just suspended our site beacuse of some script. All they did was use their helpdesk. They didn`t even bother to call us on our phone and inform us about the problem. if theye were sincere in their service, they should have called us when they couldn`t contact us in their helpdesk. plus, it will really take a long time for them to respond. our time was wasted and a lot of money was wasted.

Comments: You think it`s really reasonable until you start using it. Frequent down and overloading is usual thing on this company`s servers. Next step, you will think to claim to their customer services, and then you will know nothing will be improved. The servers keeps being down, or takes 30 seconds to show a page. Final step, you will give up, and start serching GOOD hosting company, not only CHEAP.

Comments: They lost all my data!!! According to their tech support, a power surge at their datacenter wiped out the SQL database running our on-line store. The power surge took out both the production and backup servers. Huh? Only a single backup? What happened to UPS protection, multiple/redundant backups, off-line storage and off-site storage? Seems like basic data protection to me... They tout reliability on their web site to no end -- but at this point it seems like advertising hype, not reality. Hundreds and hundreds of man-hours down the tubes... Arrrgh! A little beside the point, but their website also said they have a self-built and self-managed Data Center and Call Facility in the Midwest (Hopkinsville, KY) , but none of the contacts I`ve had over the past year have been with native English speakers. For your amusement, here`s the exact text of the tech support response: ------------------ Dear (yup, they forgot to paste in my name) We are extremely apologize for this unacceptable situation which took place recently. There was a major powersurge in the datacenter and we lost many backup servers and some production servers. We have already restored all production servers and have set up new backups servers, but mysql15 is among one that lost both production and backup machine. We basically recreated it from scratch, and recovered server structure, which means that empty databases and mysql usernames exist on your hosting account control panel. Unfortunately, experts that were hired have not found way to recover lost data. We can assure you that this will never happen again as we have taken certain measures already to prevent this kind of accidents from happening in future, e.g starting from Monday we will set brand new backup system which will allow to have backups on remote site. I am extremely sorry, that this let you and your business down so much. In case you have a backup copy of your database at your disposal you may restore it to the target database or upload it through ftp to your account and let us know what database to restore. We will gladly process your request. Please accept my personal apologies about this issue, and we are very grateful to you for your patience and understanding in advance.

Comments: They say it can`t get any worse than what you got when what you have is all ready bad. It got worse with IX Web Hosting. They are the web hosting company that I`ve had or ever seen that when you go to tech support for help they make it worse. I asked the tech support to removed some files for me and he knocked down my site. I said to undo whatever you did. He said I would have to put in a ticket. I said unbelievable. That is one of a many of things that this web hosting company does. I am currently a customer to IX Web hosting and I am seeking another host provider bad. My advise to anyone seeking a host provider is to avoid IX Web Hosting at all cost. Do not let the cheap cost fool you.

Comments: I wish I could give them a ZERO. I don`t even know where to begin. Unfortunately, I switched my service from iPower web who I had used for about 5 years. Why I did that I will never know. I never had an issue with them. They RESOLVED not just read all my tickets withing two hours...EVERY TIME. With IX, you are lucky to get a response withing 24 hours. On top of that my site is always down with server too busy errors. I mean, it is seriously a crap shoot as to whether or not my site will be up when I go to it. Thank god I am still in dev and I have time to switch it back to a decent hosting provider. Don`t waste your time with this so-called web hosting company. It is basically like burning your money (ok, i know they are cheap).

So, in theory their employees can access information on websites hosted with them (possibly credit card details) and IXHosting will not give any assurances that this information wont be misused ! - not good !!

Comments: First of all, anyone that is hosting websites and not keeping updated backups could be considered somewhat naive and a bit moronic. Relying on a host that you pay $5 a month to keep backups is somewhat silly. They even inform their customers that they are responsible for keeping backups. Redundancy is not offered by this company. If this is what you desire, you might want to look at dedicated hosting. Does anyone know of a shared host that offers redundancy? Whoever said their support was not American must have never called in to the tech support. Their call representatives are all English-speaking, southern people. They are very friendly and usually will go above and beyond in every situation. The last company I was with had all Indian support. Imagine the difficulty of explaining a technical problem with a language barrier! And anyone that is complaining about not being called first because of a script is silly. You want them to wait while to get a hold of YOU while a script on your site overloads the server I am on and ALL my sites are down. Welcome to shared hosting, buddy. Also, I asked about the security information because that one post had me concerned. It turns out that employees only have access to the last 4 of the credit card. You can`t do anything with that.

Comments: Having problems with up-time of my site using Windows server. You can typically expect random outages of 4 to 5 hours. If you create a help ticket, those don`t answered for 6 to 24 hours and live help usually directs you to create a ticket. All help tickets are answered overseas somewhere in the Eastern Bloc. Other than that, they are friendly. It would be a much better company if they really focused on maintaining their servers. I am currently looking elsewhere because I can`t afford the down-time.

My MySQL-driven sites won`t load or will load so slowly, visitors die of old age or boredom. Connection timeouts, disks full, emails delayed. Comments: Guarantee (?) 99% uptime - reality 95% and less over the past 8 months on my sites. No redundant power supply - out for almost a day. Server crashed 41.5 hours ago - STILL NOT online. BS tech service in Kentucky with no access to the techs in the hardware room in Ohio. Trouble tickets response very slow and comes from a service office in the Ukraine who give canned responses. NO monitoring of hardware regardless of what they tell you. No pro active customer support. This host wouldn`t be worth the experience if they had paid me to use them!
